Seattle artist Molly Norris combines her love of both visual art and writing to create what she calls Editoons, editorial cartoons that illustrate culture's sinister infiltrations, ridiculous trends and sheer silliness. Whether she instructs us on 'How to Keep a Green Meth Lab,' or lays out a family tree that is riddled with corporate brand mascots, Norris seizes opportunities to dish up abject worlds for illumination and laughs. She longs to be Maira Kalman with an edge, and fancies herself as the love child of John Callahan, Lynda Barry and Roz Chast -- however in the world THAT would be possible!

Norris's Editoons were featured this year on the Seattle Channel's Art Zone with Nancy Guppy. Her illustrated art exhibit previews run regularly in Art Access, her cartoon "Everyone's a Critic" runs monthly in Seattle City Arts magazine, and her cartoon "A Dog Day in the City" is seen in every edition of the west coast magazine City Dog. She has written for numerous newspapers including the Seattle Times and the Tacoma News Tribune; her monthly column in the Queen Anne/Magnolia NEWS, "From the Bluff," combines environmental issues with humor. She has taught art at Cornish College of the Arts and the Bellevue Arts Museum, and has been exhibiting her visual art since 1981.

A catalog of Norris's cartoons/illustrations entitled CULTURE COMPLEX: EDITOONS will be available at the gallery --
